PIANO SYLLABUS

Two Learning Programmes are offered for a pianist to follow (from child to adult).

 If you are a complete beginner, you will follow programme one. If you can already play the instrument or play by ear and want to sight read, or simply want to develop your existing skills, you will follow programme two.

Programme 1

Between six months and one year you will achieve the following:

Be able to navigate your way around the notes on the piano. You will achieve this by;

-                      Learning the names of the notes

-                      Understanding the order of pitch on a piano

-                      Learning fingering positions to play separate notes effectively in order

-                      Investigating how the piano can provide melody and accompaniment

Students will also learn simple tunes from a dedicated music book written for beginners

Programme 2

Between six months to one year you will achieve the following:

-                      Develop your sight reading skills

-                      Develop your aural perception ability

-                      Extend your ability to play by ear or from memory

-                      Be able to play a selection of pieces in a variety of styles

-                      Learn how to play with expression and feeling

For both programmes, if you would like to extend your theory music ability or maybe want to enter for a theory exam, a separate music theory class is offered, again specifically designed for each student.

**We also offer a completely ‘tailor made’ learning experience to suit your specific development needs. If you wish, we can adapt the teaching to target a specific musical style or method of learning**
